Philosophical Fiction Vol.2
Coming across this passage in Elie Wiesels’ Night I was reminded of this Quote from interview with a vampire. Not pretty things to acknowledge but cold hard truths that are spoken in both fiction and nonfiction.
People who cease to believe in good or goodness altogether still believe in the devil. I don’t know why. No, I indeed know why. Evil is always possible. And goodness is eternally difficult.
-Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire p.80
I don’t know what I’m trying to say here with this. I just thought it was an interesting connection, fact backing up fiction. Make of it what you will
My faceless neighbor spoke up:
“Don’t be deluded. Hitler has made it clear that he will annihilate all Jews before the clock strikes twelve.”
I Exploded:
“What do you care what he said? Would you want us to consider him a prophet?”
His cold eyes stared at me. At last, he said wearily:
“I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. He alone has kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people.”
